The Tianleyuan Theater is one of Beijing’s oldest theaters, with a history spanning nearly 200 years. It has borne witness to the birth and flourishing of Peking Opera, serving as the stage where the great Mei Lanfang made his debut, where Cheng Yanqiu rose to fame, and where the Chongya Society—China’s first Beijing Opera school for women—was founded.
After its reopening, Tianleyuan Grand Theater has been revitalized as a Peking Opera–themed cultural experience hall. Here, visitors can enjoy both tradition and innovation: from Debut, an innovative production enhanced with modern technologies, to themed exhibitions showcasing treasured Beijing Opera collections. Together, these experiences offer audiences a deeper immersion into the artistry and cultural heritage of Beijing Opera.
